Coburn Tuller’s Butterfly Tones video

Coburn Tuller from Springfield Missouri has released an innovative new album that has rapidly caught the attention of many review publicists recently. One reason for the upsurge of interest may be in direct relation to the unique melodic sounds heard on his first album, which are sounds produced from a musical instrument he invented named The Tones.

Coburn Tuller had first conceived the idea for his one of a kind instrument during a nighttime walk in 1996. After hearing wind chimes lightly touching in a gentle breeze he discovered the random series of sound sparked his creative imagination. Coburn then determined that aluminum tubing of accurate length, diameter and dimension produced an original sound modulation when struck with a mallet. Coburn then devoted 15 years perfecting his unique instrument.

The Tones is a musical instrument that stands over 8 foot tall, and consists of 3 pyramid structures supporting 90 aluminum and brass tubes of various size and dimension, which range from 7 inches to over 6 foot in length. The sounds produced are like a new form of ambient music by the sound modulation which is totally unique, but one most likely considered a percussion instrument normally used in an orchestra like tubular bells. Regardless of how this instrument is classified the distinctive sounds, unlike drum beats, enable the creation of an independent melody.

Butterfly Tones is a relaxing album featuring 9 melodies which reveal this instrumental freedom of melodic expression. This natural resonating characteristic of bell tones becomes apparent on every piece, where multiple layers enhance a distinct harmony while Coburn ascends and descends through the scales using select octaves and tempos.

On the Butterfly Tones release you will notice every note produces a clear and precise harmony rather than a series of arbitrary sounds like you would hear on wind chimes. The natural tone reverberation on his instrument is apparent on every octave of the bells which ring true, and create a tonal echo which can linger for minutes during a song. This is the most exclusive characteristics of the instrument with the only exception being the ingenuity of the inventor.

Visit the butterflytonescd.com homepage and read what others are saying on Coburn’s reviews page. To sample or purchase or visit his CDBaby.com page or Amazon.com page. Below is the video Once Again from his Butterfly Tones release. Read our page dedicated to Coburn Tuller.

Rarely does an artist of any genre create an entirely new and unique sound identity they can claim entirely as their own. Butterfly Tones by Coburn Tuller, featuring 9 songs of melodic bell timbres is definitely one of the most exclusive musical arrangements I have ever heard. Coburn Tuller has not only created an innovative source of beautiful harmony for a broad multicultural audience, but his first contribution to the New Age music genre is by the same token, a new source of inspiration.

2002 – Damayanti

Randy and Pamela Copus are the popular husband and wife duo that is the complete heart and spirit of 2002. After 19 years as top New Age music artists, Randy and Pamela are approaching a significant milestone in their careers and a time of celebration by their forthcoming 20 year anniversary as the award winning, Billboard charting music duo 2002.

Randy and Pamela Copus have just released an exceptional new 2002 album titled Damayanti so this is likewise a time of celebration for their loyal fans. It was nineteen years ago when 2002 first began producing music with their first album titled Wings. Since then, it’s as if their popular celestial melodies have stair stepped their way among the clouds in a skyward journey of their own.

Many would agree the New Age Billboard charting 2002 music duo Randy and Pamela Copus are one of the finest New Age groups producing music today. Their free-flowing arrangements and unhurried approach on every album they create has resulted in a made with pride product every time.

Their status as top artists is apparent by the number of times 2002 has been listed as a favorite musical group, having charted 9 times in the New Age Billboard Charts within the past 10 years. When combined this is equal to 270 weeks on the New Age charts. 2002 was likewise featured in the December 2003 Magazine issue of Year in Review at Billboard, and listed with other top New Age artists like Enya, George Winston, Jim Brickman, Manheim Steamroller and Yanni. This is a pretty good indication of their standing as a chosen favorite for many people.

Damayanti by 2002 was recently introduced on their Galactic Playground Music label. The album has 10 opulent songs revealing a wonderful change in tonal atmosphere which does make it stand out from earlier predecessors. While it is not an immense departure from earlier albums, the story based Damayanti is perhaps their best release yet, and I imagine it will be another big hit on the airwaves.

Damayanti was created in comparison like earlier 2002 albums by Randy Copus playing piano, electric cello, guitar and bass, while Pamela Copus played flutes, harp, keyboards and a WX5 wind instrument. Visit the 2002music.com homepage and then sample / purchase on their music page or go to their Amazon.com page. My album review quote, and Free to Fly song video from their A Word in the Wind DVD is shown below. Read my interview on our page for 2002.

Even now with their unending popularity and recognition, 2002 remains steadfast in their creative ambitions for producing quality orchestrations. Their close attention to instrumental and technical details on every album results in a complete reinvention of themselves every time which gives them another reason to pause, reflect, and to celebrate.

The Story behind Sadness Part I video

It is always exciting when new information is available about how true classics in the world art was made. So is also the case in new age music. In connection with Enigma’s 20 year anniversary, Enigmamusic.com sheds new light on the making of the Sadness Part I video – which perhaps is the most famous of all the great Enigma music videos.

French Director & Producer Michel Guimbard was kind enough to share some production details with us. He says: ”I made Sadeness video clip in 1991. The girl I found for the video was very young (17 years old, way back in then) Her name is Cathy Tastet. (Also known as Kati Tastet, born in Toulouse France on January 01, 1973) After the video, she became an Elite Model in the USA. Director of Photography of the film was Jérôme Robert. I wrote the story of the film. Shooting Ratio of the music video of Sadeness was 1.33 (4:3) “”The gate in the video was inspired by Auguste Rodin’s ”La Porte de l’Enfer” (The Gates of Hell).

New Kitaro Video – Live in San Francisco

Kitaro – Sacred Journey of Ku-Kai Vol. 4

Sacred Journey of Ku-Kai Vol. 4

I love albums that have a story to tell, albums that fill your mind with images, people, situations, smells and – above all – atmospheres. It all comes to life through music. One such epic music project is Kitaro’s Sacred Journey of Ku-Kai. The fourth album in the Ku-Kai series is now out, and it has been nominated for the 2011 Grammy awards in the new age music category. So press play and join Kitaro in this sacred journey!

The Ku-Kai series is inspired by the classic Buddhist pilgrimage to the 88 sacred temples on Japan’s remote Shikoku Island. This journey was taken by the Buddhist monk Ku-Kai over a millennium ago, and the message was that of peace, and caring for each other and Mother Earth. Kitaro continues this journey in his music, and you don’t have to travel to Japan to go in the footsteps of the good Ku-Kai.

Copyright Domo Music

To give us an idea what this is about, Domo music has given us the above interactive map that we can explore (click here for the full size, clickable map). By looking at these pictures of the different temples and locations on the Shikoku island we get an idea of what this is about. Of course, the music is very epic in itself so you don´t have to know the map – but it is nice to have some background knowledge of this. And for you world travelers out there – this would make an interesting destination while visiting Japan!

It is always exciting to get a new installment in the Ku-Kai series. What will be the overall atmosphere? Is it fast or slow, dramatic or peaceful? No doubt, some of the locations on the road around the island have a more dramatic history to tell, while most are about spirit, nature and contemplation. On this 4th leg of the journey, we get some of the finest songs so far in the series.

Given the fact that we here are talking about a religious journey, there is this underlying feeling of awe. You get to hear the temple bells, the silent whisper of the water and the wind, and one can´t avoid feeling small and insignificant in the big scheme of things. The album starts at the Zenjibu-Ji temple with the almost 10 minute long song called Lotus Mountain. Here the sound of nature and Kitaro’s magnificent string synth gives one the feeling of traveling upwards toward a place with a good view. It is like a build up for the rest of the album.

Some of the songs have a lighter atmosphere, like Reflection of Water and South Wind (which has the sound of the theme from Silk Road - and we love that, don´t we?!). These songs give you time to relax and meditate. But the most interesting song on the album is without a doubt the last one, the 4 minute Ritual Wind. Kitaro’s presentation of the Enkou-Ji temple is just breathtaking. As a radio host I just love songs that gives the in medias res effect, songs that you can listen to for 5 seconds and you´ll find yourself in the middle of the drama. From a melodic perspective the song is interesting too, since there is really no build-up and no theme, but one continuous melody that is as dramatic as it is satisfying. It is a song that I simply can´t wait to play for our listeners at New Age Stars radio.

Sacred Journey of Ku-Kai Vol. 4 is the kind of album all new age artists dream to create, but only a true maestro – like Kitaro – can deliver. He is the true master of larger-than-life music. After having completed yet another listen of Ku-Kai Vol. 4 I feel thankful that Kitaro has 40 more locations to visit. In other words; the temple journey is far from over.

Become Enigma’s next video director!

In the end of December the result of the Enigma Social song project, called MMX (The Social Song), was completed. Here Enigma fans showed their talent in singing, designing covers, and creating a song together, but one thing has so far been missing; the music video.

One of Enigma´s trademarks for 20 years has been the amazing music videos. And this is what Michael Cretu and the Enigma management now want help with: They encourage everyone to submit their music videos made for the “Social Song”.

The submission deadline will be February 11, 2010 at 4pm GMT+1. After closing date Michael will select his Top10 videos, which then you can select your favorite from. The winner of the overall voting will be announced on February 28, 2010. For more details on the procedure and requirements, click here.

Below are the two first videos that have been submitted. I must say I´m impressed with the quality so far.

Paul Avgerinos Law of Attraction video

Paul Avgerinos is a Grammy Nominated musician with a new release called Law of Attraction his prodigious fan base is certain to fully embrace with open arms, and do so without hesitation.   I would imagine this great ambient album will also succeed at winning over many new fans for Paul Avgerinos, new fans who will go directly to the heart of his widely popular Round Sky Music website.

Paul Avgerinos earlier music awards include Garden Of Delight which won Best World Album in 2007 and notable Gnosis had 5 Best of nominations total, while winning the Best Relaxation / Meditation Album award category in 2006. Muse of the Round Sky which made the airwaves on over 2000 radio stations worldwide was the album that had first introduced Paul Avgerinos from Redding Connecticut as a top artist and Grammy Nominated musician.

Paul was also the primary bass player for The Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra and toured with many Popular, Contemporary, and Jazz groups over the years, having been involved with numerous Platinum album productions while collaborating with popular music acts like Aerosmith, Jewel, Run DMC, Willie Nelson and Deana Carter.

Law of Attraction is an exciting fusion of New Age Ambient and World influences from the Middle East and India.  Of the many earlier releases that garnered success, Law of Attraction has instrumental essentials like his earlier award winning Garden of Delight.

Law of Attraction is a new release along the same wavelength with his prior Love album, which is another positively feel good release with a passionate and dreamy intonation paired to the divine word we call love, and the Love album did after all achieve a desirable level in 2009 by 2 nominations at ZMR which included Best Relaxation / Meditation Album.

It is pretty easy to fall in love with Paul Avgerinos music whether you have been officially introduced or not, so for some of you let me officially introduce you to this award winning musician for the very first time.  You may be interested to know that in addition to his eloquent skills as a composing New Age musician Paul has worked on over 100 television and film projects and has given much over the years as a top New Age musician.

Visit roundskymusic.com to sample / purchase or go to his CDBaby.com page & Amazon.com page. You can also find out more on our pages dedicated to Paul Avgerinos. Shown below is a review quote about his brand new release and colorful compilation YouTube video from Law of Attraction.

After listening to Paul Avgerinos Law of Attraction I discovered a pleasingly rich sensation of expressive delights and melodic wonderment.  If this sensational new release were a library book, Law of Attraction would be classified and shelved in the romantic therapy section.

Album Review for Yanni’s Truth of Touch coming soon

One of the most exciting aspects of being a review publicist is having the opportunity to receive and then listen to a new album that has not yet been released to the public. In this case my recent mailing happens to be a Truth Of Touch CD from Yanni. I will be publishing my review for Truth Of Touch here at NewAgeMusicWorld.Com & NewAgeMusic.nu soon, but I wanted to take a moment and give our visitors my first impression.

After listening to Truth Of Touch many times over for days now, I can tell you that Yanni and the musicians in accompaniment have succeeded in producing one of the finest albums to date! Perhaps Yanni said it best in his official Truth Of Touch YouTube video when he said everyone will be “pleasantly surprised “ regarding his newest release which is available for pre – purchase now, and has an official release date of February 8th 2011.

This new and original composition from Yanni has cutting edge Electronics, along with the exceptional Contemporary Instrumentals by accomplished musicians of fame he judiciously selects during every concert and studio album production. Earlier I wrote about two instrumental performers in a Tribute album article, which was my favorite album until today ! Below is an admirable travel around the world YouTube video presenting the full length song called Voyage and then we invite you to read our pages dedicated to Yanni.

My review will be published weeks prior to the album release date and I do hope to have an interview with Yanni too so visit us again soon. For pre – release album orders, news, and concert venues visit yanni.com and truthoftouch.com.

New Movie Music by Eric Mouquet

Eric Mouquet of Deep Forest / Deep Projects has posted the following message:

Last september I composed music for this movie called IKIMONO, it’s about biodiversity on the Earth. My children are singing in the ending song. All music will be available soon.

Below is the movie trailer with Eric’s music:

It is tempting to compare the song with a Deep Forest classic like First Twilight on World Mix (1994). The melodic element is a bit hard to grasp at the first listen, but second time around you are amazed by the wonderful complexity of it. The ending song has a bright, upbeat feel and is will for sure be a hit with your children.

Yet again Eric Mouquet is showing that he is the no. 1 when it comes to creating heartfelt new age music with a truly timeless feel. This music takes you back to the dinosaurs and into today’s world again in a snap. Bravo!

New Video from Peter Kater

Peter Kater has just released the below video from his brand new Call of Love album. This is without a doubt one of this year’s finest releases.

Visit Peterkater.com for more wonderful samples.

Tangerine Dream – the Zeitgeist Concert Recording

At Tangerine Dream’s own Eastgate Music Shop is now the 3 CD recording of the band’s concert in Royal Albert Hall on April 1st 2010 available. The performance started with cellos, leading into a beautiful piano improvisation by Linda Spa – and then getting interrupted by Edgar Froese’s beating with a whip on the grand piano strings and then suddenly the new arrangement of Rubycon 2010!

Tangerine Dream played the Royal Albert Hall for the first time in April 1975. So this concert was actually a 35 year anniversary. The 3 CDset comes with a 16-pages booklet. Below are two videos from the concert taken by the audience.

A truly unique concert!

See the complete track listing here.

3 New Live Videos from Eric Mouquet

If you didn’t get to see Eric Mouquet of Deep Forest/Deep Project’s concert at La Villette/France in May, you can now enjoy three songs from the concert below.
I think it so nice to hear and see Eric do some of the old Deep Forest material, from the World Mix period in the mid 1990s. And wow, Blick Bassy adds a magnificent vocal! Inor Sotolongo is great on the percussion. Some Deep Brasil material would also have been nice of course.

When doing this kind of music live the question is always; how to give life to the ethnical samples and the overall synth/sequenced presentation. The best way is actually shown here; just playback the samples and synth effect and add something extra, like Blick Bassy’s vocal – and even more live instruments.

These videos are true gold for the Deep Forest fan. And don’t forget, we will soon get a brand new Deep Project album called Deep Africa! Eric Mouquet is without a doubt the king of new age music within the ethnic sub genre. With a Grammy (for Deep Forest) and over 10 million album sold and just as many playbacks on Youtube, he is an artist loved by a truly international audience.

Be sure to visit Deep Projects.com.
