This weekend David Lanz will be performing in Utah (see his tour schedule here). Newspaper The Salt Lake Tribune has this report:

When the Beatles’ catalog was released on iTunes last month, the only trouble was that many music fans — me included — already own every song the Fab Four recorded.

This weekend, though, we can hear many of the Beatles’ songs for the first time again. Pioneering New Age musician David Lanz will present his unique interpretations of the music John, Paul, George and Ringo popularized nearly a half-century ago.

“When you use Lennon and McCartney as your mentors, you can’t go wrong,” said Lanz in an interview.

Edward Weiss is known for his program – Quiescencemusic - that promises that anyone can learn to compose and play new age music piano without sheet music or musical scores. Now, according to webpage Allaboutjazz.com, Weiss has received the best endorsement imaginable: from the one and only mr. David Lanz!

Quote from Allaboutjazz.com:

Heres what Mr. Lanz has to say about Edward and his teaching methods: Your approach to learning this style of piano is easy to grasp and very well thought out, and I would recommend it to anyone getting started on improvisation, especially in the New Age style!

And more:

Edward explains: Learning to play, compose and improvise doesnt have to be hard. In fact, by following my methods anyone can soon be doing it – easily and effortlessly. His step by step online video instructions provides everything needed except of course the keyboard. Its basically Look, Listen and Learn.

It almost sounds like an ad, but it is taken from the respected website Allaboutjazz.com. See the article here.

So yes, if Lanz says that it is good, it must be the real thing.

The newspaper The Bellington Herald has an interview with David Lanz in connection with his upcoming concert on 17 July in The Amadeus Project concert hall in Bellingham, Washington.

This is also the city where the popular pianist lives.

In the interview David is asked about how he works:

For me, laughing at one’s self and not taking things too seriously is really the best approach to life. Focus and dedication make for a serious musician, but laughter and light heartedness bring joy to life.

And about his upcoming recording:

I am planning on previewing music from my upcoming project at the July 17 concert, and have been keeping this recording under wraps, which means you will have come to the show to see what is next!

So this will indeed a concert not to miss if you are in the area.

Read the interview here.

Pianist David Lanz has been interviewed on the topic: The Spiritual Significance Of Music. He says that:

Music, like spirit, is invisible. Yet it moves us to sing, dance, laugh, cry, even march to war, to heal, and pray, Music has the power to bring thousands of people together to celebrate. What else in life has this power? Everything on this Earth eventually crumbles and returns to the dust of which it was made. Only Spirit remains. Great music endures centuries, outliving its creators and performers.

Read it all here. It is really inspirational.
